Are you interested in taking an Aqua Fitness class, but not sure what the benefits really are? Today’s post will break down the benefits Aquafitness has on your Body, Mind, and  Social Life.

When people stand in water, the water pushes up against the body and takes the stress off of the joints. This is called buoyancy. Our bodies are so buoyant that when we are in the pool, we move only with 10% of our weight’s resistance. This feeling of weightlessness lends to the ease many people feel when exercising in the water, including those recovering from chronic conditions or injuries. Because of this support, individuals performing aerobic exercises in the water feel large improvements in balance, coordination, and flexibility even after they’ve exited the pool. Hey, don’t let the phrase “low-impact” fool you, when you work out in the pool you are building your physical endurance, burning calories, and toning muscle. The body is getting all the benefits of the workout, without the pain and pressure placed on the joints with a traditional dry-land exercise. Now, the benefits do not stop at the physical body. Swimming and taking aqua fitness classes is shown to promote better sleep. When a person exercises regularly, sleep patterns improve, as well as improved self-esteem. Many of the mental benefits of exercise are related to the release of endorphins, that enhance the feeling of well-being and boost mood. Due to these endorphins, fitness can lead to a reduction in stress and anxiety. Studies have also been completed showing that exercise facilitates the restraint inhibition component of behavioral inhibition in children with ADHD.

Lastly, exercising with others is the best way to connect, and often helps the time pass in a long class. Working out with a buddy is a great way to maintain healthy relationships with people who share the same interests as you. Consequently, when participants attend Aqua Fitness classes alone, the class immediately welcomes them in with smiling faces and helps choose the supplies they need. At our pool, the participants of Aqua Fitness classes stay social with each other and attend lunch and parties after class. A popular social life is one of the best ways to stay engaged with your community, especially after retirement. Aquafitness has something for men and women of all ages to love. If you like meeting new people, releasing endorphins, and working out with no pain afterwards, Aquafitness is for you! Come by and enjoy a class at the Pinnacle pool and join in on the fun.
