Retrain your Brain

Mindfulness and Yoga

In every moment of life, there are infinite reasons to suffer and infinite reasons to be happy. What matters is where we’re putting our attention.  By Tim Desmond

Sometimes our unhappiness becomes habitual. Sometimes we see so much pain and suffering in the world we feel it’s not ok to be happy ourselves.

So maybe it’s time to retrain your brain to rejoice in happiness and gain all the benefits that come with it.

  • Find a comfortable place to sit.

  • Take a full deep breath letting the belly, ribcage and chest rise. Allow the air to sigh out of your mouth.

  • Allow each exhale to  release any tension from your body and mind.

  • Take a few more deep inhales and exhales, continuing to relax and release.

  • Bring a small smile to your lips

  • Think of a time recently that you experience the feeling of happiness

    • Maybe you were with a small child at the zoo

    • Maybe celebrating some friends

    • Maybe seeing the trees coming into bloom

  • Try to come back to the feeling and immerse your mind and body into it.

  • Bring some grateful affirmations to mind and feel whatever joy comes up

  • Keep this feeling close to you as you offer these phrases

    • May my happiness continue

    • May my happiness grow

    • May I feel fully present to receive this joy

    • May I feel grateful for this contentment

Change any of these words to fit how you are feeling. Use words that resonate with you.

I wish you all, love light laughter, health and happiness

Namaste, Terry
